Ambulance Rider
Playing "Ambulance Rider"
How'd it come about?
This is a tune that I wrote in 2001. I was messing around with looping and had just bought this red bass guitar.
I recorded some tracks with the bass and just started experimenting with different cut spots for the loop and timings.
In the end, its apparent that I hadn't quite gotten the hang of creating a properly timed loop... but I like what that
does to this track. It isn't smooth, you almost can't follow the beat until the drums come in and even then the music
doesn't sync up with it right, giving it this hectic unorganized feel. The droning noise is a guitar track with some
crazy distortion I'd thrown on it. I also slowed down the speed of the guitar track and then ran it through this plugin
that is used to simulate the passing of an object in motion (so it messes with the phase and gives it a flange effect).
The screaming woman is actually a sound clip I'd taken from the television. I believe it is a woman being arrested (and
not taking it particularly well).

What's it about?
Once I got the droning sound in the mix, I started to get a story going in my head. I imagined that this is what the siren of an ambulance sounds like to someone who is taking their last ride on earth. Your head is swirling, heart erratic, as the morphine slowly takes effect. Your senses are failing and you are hearing this warped siren, and you realize... this is your personal soundtrack to death.
